The Problem
Our client was manually drilling and tapping holes into cast handles, resulting in a labor-intensive and inconsistent process. This manual approach created a significant production bottleneck, limiting daily throughput and decreasing overall manufacturing efficiency. An automated solution was required to drastically reduce cycle times and improve repeatability.
Concept & Planning
Utilising our internal design gate process, Nova developed concept sketches for a bespoke automated machine. The strategy centered on an indexing table layout with dedicated drilling and tapping heads. This configuration allows multiple operations to be performed in parallel, ensuring that a finished part is produced with every rotation.
The Solution
After securing client approval on the initial schemes, we then generated a comprehensive detailed manufacturing drawing package from the 3D CAD model. This transition from manual handling to an automated, multi-stage machine eliminated the bottleneck and provided a scalable solution for high-volume handle production.
